EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The presidential election was called last month, but a step in the process to make that results official happens on Tuesday. Typically during December, 538 electors gather in their respective states throughout the country to directly cast a ballot for president and vice president. How many electors each state gets is based on population. In Rhode Island's case, four electors will head to the State House to cast their votes for Vice President Kamala Harris, since she won the state. Harris carried the state by 13% over former President Donald Trump. Robert Britto, Ami Manilal Gada and George Nee, the former RI AFL-CIO president. The public is able to view this vote, but seating is limited and only available in the R.I. House gallery. Once each state makes their votes official, a joint session of Congress will be called in early January to confirm them. That count is overseen by the sitting vice president, which is Harris.
