EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha joined 12 News at 4 for his monthly interview. Neronha discussed the westbound Washington Bridge, which has been closed for one full year, as well as his political future. Washington Bridge accountability Neronha stressed that the Office of the Attorney General's job is to represent the State of Rhode Island in its lawsuit against the 13 companies it believes are liable for the bridge's collapse. "It's not my job, it's not my mission and it's certainly not my intention to look inside government and try to find fault or lack of fault," Neronha told 12 News' Kim Kalunian. However, he did share that he expects a "forensic audit" will play out over the course of the litigation, as it seems likely the defendants' principal argument will be that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is to blame. Our job is to do as good a job as we can." Successful and pending litigation Neronha congratulated his colleagues in the Office of the Attorney General after a federal appeals court overturned a decision that had frozen the state's truck tolls. "Our job is to defend the decisions of the General Assembly and the governor, and we did that successfully," Neronha said. Neronha's political future Neronha indicated an interest in running for lieutenant governor in 2026, provided he can partner with a gubernatorial candidate who shares his ideas and outlook. Would he consider Gov. Dan McKee as a potential running mate? "I think you know the answer to that," Neronha joked. Watch the full interview in the player above. Close Thanks for signing up!
