NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Clear and calm conditions will lead to a cold start to the day Thursday. Temperatures will be dropping quickly this evening as the sun goes down thanks to very dry air with the latest trough. Expect numbers around freezing for areas north of I-12 in the Florida Parishes and north of I-10 in southern Mississippi. This won't be the coldest air we've seen so far this season but as always protect any sensitive plants and keep the pets warm. Look for mid to upper 30s across much of the south shore away from marine areas. Thursday will stay chilly with mid to upper 50s through the day but at least be less windy. We are back in the low 60s Friday and then around 70 Saturday as a warming trend moves in. Overnight lows will also be much warmer by the weekend with 50s and 60s instead of 30s.
