MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A trial date has been set in a murder case against a Memphis mother charged in the death of her own 4-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a trash can.
Brittney Jackson is set to face a jury next September.
In October, Jackson and her boyfriend Jaylon Hobson were indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and making a false report in the death of Sequoia Samuels.

Police said Jackson reported Sequoia missing from their home on Caldwell on the morning of June 15, 2023, but investigators found the child’s body in a trash can near her apartment.
According to court documents, Jackson told investigators Sequoia had been dead for weeks, and they had been storing her body in garbage bags inside their house.
She said Hobson had attacked Sequoia multiple times, and after the last attack, she was unresponsive. They said Jackson also admitted she never rendered aid.
