Snow squalls exit, turning bitter cold with more snow Thursday
Dec 11, 2024
Quick bursts of snow exit before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday ahead of Arctic air moving into the region once again. Many spots had a quick dusting of snow, accumulating on any untreated concrete surfaces and grassy surfaces. As temperatures fall, any untreated surfaces may become slick with any lingering moisture left on the concrete.
After 8:00 p.m. skies will begin clearing as the Arctic air moves in. Thursday will start dry and cold with wind chills in the single digits or below zero in spots.
The day will be sunny before increasing clouds arrive in the afternoon. As this happens, another chance for snow will occur for many hometowns. This snow will likely stick and could cause some issues for the Thursday p.m. commute, too. The colder air will make this snow more of a fluffier type. Some spots could see an additional inch of snow possibly.
By Friday, temperatures look to moderate again toward the weekend. This means the chill we'll see on Thursday will be brief. Thanks to an upper-level ridge building, we'll be warm through the weekend but it will come with rain. Timing for the weekend precip is the second half of Saturday and early Sunday. Highs Saturday in the 40s and could potentially get into the 50s Sunday thanks to increased SW winds.
While the second half of Sunday looks dry, the work week will start with rain Monday. Central Indiana will be on the "warm" sector of this system, keeping the precip form as rain for us. We'll start to cool down Tuesday.
