Purdue's top lawyer arrested, charged with drunk driving

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A lawyer serving as General Counsel for Purdue University was arrested this week and charged with drunk driving.

Steven R. Schultz, 59, was arrested early Wednesday by West Lafayette police on suspicion of drunk driving. He has since been booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on one count of Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of .15 or More - a Class A Misdemeanor.
Schultz serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Purdue University. A former corporate lawyer with Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis and with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in London, Schultz joined Purdue's legal staff in 2013.
"As Purdue’s chief legal officer, Steve advises the Trustees, the president and senior administrators on issues of law, governance and risk management and oversees and directs the representation of the University in all legal matters," PU's website reads.
Purdue University spokesperson Erin Murphy released a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
"The Purdue Board of Trustees and executive leadership are aware of the incident involving General Counsel Steve Schultz who was arrested Dec. 11 on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated," Murphy said. "Purdue will address the matter pursuant to our applicable personnel policies."
