Suspect arrested in connection to vehicle burglaries in Calumet County

HARRISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A suspect has been arrested following an investigation by the Calumet County Sheriff's Office into a series of vehicle burglaries that occurred in early and mid-November.
Authorities reported that multiple vehicles in the Firelane area on the north shore of Lake Winnebago were entered, and several items, including firearms, were stolen.

On Monday, December 9, investigators conducted surveillance on a residence in Menasha. The suspect, identified as Tristan Backus, was observed leaving the residence and was taken into custody without incident at a nearby gas station.
A search warrant executed at the Menasha residence led to the recovery of stolen property. Backus faces charges including nine counts of theft of movable property, burglary, and two counts of theft of firearms.

The Calumet County Sheriff's Office reminds residents to remove valuables from vehicles and lock them. Most incidents involved unlocked vehicles.
Additionally, if firearms are stored in a vehicle, they should be secured in a gun safe, and free gun locks are available at all law enforcement agencies in Calumet County.
