From Storm Team 5...
A two part system is set to move into northeast Wisconsin, first the potential for some wintery weather this afternoon and evening with the cold air rushing in behind the arctic front.
If you have not already, download the Storm Team 5 weather app, as it is free to download on the App Store and Google Play that sends real time alerts to your phone, whether you are on the road or at home.
An arctic front is moving across the state today, and brings the potential of a few snow showers or snow squalls, similar to what we we experienced last week. Thankfully this time around, if we do see some snow squall, we do not have temperatures right at freezing, so flash freeze conditions are not expected.
However, if we do see a snow squall impact our area this evening, they will still bring impacts to driving conditions, with blizzard like conditions happening in a short period of time. If any 'Snow Squall Warnings' are issued, we will be sure to update you as soon as possible on the air or on the web.
As the front passes by and behind it as well, the temperatures fall fast, winds will crank up gusting to around 35mph, and feel like temperatures will tumble well below zero. The National Weather Service issued a 'Cold Weather Advisory' for Brown, Calumet, Fond Du Lac, Kewaunee, Green Lake, Langlade, Manitowoc, Marquette, Menominee, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago counties from 10pm Wednesday through 10am Thursday.
These new headlines have replaced the old 'Wind Chill Advisories' used since the 1990s. The National Weather Service said for the 'Cold Weather Advisory', the criteria for issuing these advisories has not changed and that these adjustments were made to highlight extreme cold when frostbite is possible within fifteen minutes.
Be sure to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time in the morning tomorrow, especially for your cars that will be sitting out in the cold overnight.
