(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A project that will permanently change the skyline of Downtown Colorado Springs is moving forward.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, Colorado Springs City Council approved a proposal for a planned 27-story building. The high-rise will be located at the corner of Sahwatch Street and Costilla Street, near the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Muesum.

Once it's built, the ONE VeLa building will be the tallest building in the city. Many in the community have opposed the project, saying the planned building is too tall.
According to the ONE Vela website, the high-rise will help address Colorado Springs' housing shortage with the addition of 400 new housing units, including 10% of units that developers have voluntarily committed to offer at the Area Median Income (AMI).
