Bill Belichick to become North Carolina’s next head football coach
Dec 11, 2024
Six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick will become the next head coach at the University of North Carolina, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
Belichick’s contract with UNC is a three-year, $30 million deal, according to The Athletic.
This will be Belichick’s first stint as college coach. He had previously coached in the NFL in some capacity since 1975. He was the long-time coach of the New England Patriots’ dynasty that won six Super Bowls.
The hiring comes after the Tar Heels fired Mack Brown on November 6th following a 6-6 record this past season.
Belichick, widely regarded as one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history, will be tasked with carrying his success to the collegiate level. The decision is somewhat surprising, as he is 15 wins away from becoming the winningest head coach in NFL history.
Belichick made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday and discussed how he would manage a college program.
“If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL,” Belichick said. “It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching and techniques that would transfer to the NFL.”
Belichick, 72, will be the oldest head coach in the FBS.
