CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The family of Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, has ties to the Charleston area. News 2 has confirmed that Mangione’s parents own a condominium in a building off East Bay Street called, The Cogswell Building, in the Printer’s Row community. It was purchased in 2014 for $820,000. The suspect’s sister graduated from the College of Charleston and worked at art galleries here and in Florence, Italy while in college. His mother is also active in the Lowcountry community and serves on the board of a local Italian film festival. Luigi Mangione comes from a family of wealth and privilege. His most recent address was in Hawaii, but he grew up in Maryland, where many of his family members are today, including his cousin Nino Mangione, a Maryland state delegate.
