Brrr. A subzero chilly morning greets North Dakotans.

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — It's our first taste of sub-zero weather this winter, and while it's not going to last, it it is a chilly reminder of what winters are like in North Dakota.
How cold is it? Well, consider that the following locations were warmer than Bismarck around 9:00 a.m., when it was about -4 degrees F:
Minot, Dec. 11, 2024, around 9:00 a.m. (KX weather cam)
Anchorage, Alaska: 34 degrees F
North Pole, Alaska: 14 degrees F
Thunder Bay, Ontario: 10 degrees F
Bratsk, Siberia: 0 degrees F
Kathmandu, Nepal: 49 degrees F
Klinck Weather Station, Greenland: 11 degrees F
Reykjavík, Iceland: 39 degrees F
We can take some small comfort in knowing the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is currently -24 F, so we're warmer than that (although it's not unusual for places in North Dakota to get that cold in winter).
And, at the opposite side of the thermometer this morning, it was 80 degrees F in Cancun, Mexico.

"Well, yeah, it's a cold one. You're going to feel it. Bundle up -- that's the big thing for today," says KX Meteorologist Stone Schafer.
Fear not, however. Relative relief is on the way.
"What do we have to look forward to?" says Schafer. Clear skies and quiet weather.
"Teens, 20s and 30s by the time we get to the weekend," Schafer says, offering a bit of good news.
