CVC Boys Soccer Coaches host 51st AllConference event
Dec 11, 2024
WEST WINDSOR — With two teams having reached state semifinal games after five from the new Colonial Division had reached sectional finals this fall, the Colonial Valley Conference’s varsity boys’ soccer coaches, in cooperation with sponsor Real Central NJ (represented by former Notre Dame High standout Ben Chrnelich), had plenty to celebrate Tuesday night at Mercer Oaks when they held their 51st annual postseason banquet to honor their picks for the league’s top players.
Considering CVC Tournament champion Princeton High repeated as Central Jersey Group IV champions and Colonial Division regular-season winner Robbinsville grabbed its third straight sectional crown, this time in Central Jersey Group II, there were once again plenty of talented soccer standouts to tout.
Leading the list of 56 players chosen by these coaches for All-CVC honors were seven players from the 19-2-3 Ravens and seven more from the 17-3-5 Tigers.
Non-Public A South finalist Notre Dame (18-7-1) also had seven of its players honored at the event, where T-shirts and sweatshirts were donated by another former Irish star Les Korsos from soccer.com.
Six players from Central Jersey Group III runner-up Steinert (16-5-3) were among the coaches’ choices, and Hopewell Valley (10-11-1) had five standouts honored.
The Spartans were the only team with multiple award winners among the association’s top prizes. Senior fullback Elliot Morris was selected as the Bobby Smith Defender of the Year, while Anthony Tessein was selected by his peers as the league’s Glenn “Mooch” Myernick Coach of the Year.
R’ville had the most players selected to the first team (five), led by athletic senior goalkeeper Brody Kaplan, who was named as Judge Al Cooper Goalkeeper of the Year.
Princeton senior Archie Smith, a regional All-American, was chosen as the league’s Billy Gazonas Midfielder of the Year.
ND senior forward Will Lynch, who had 34 goals, which tied for the area lead, and 13 assists for an area-best 81 points this season on his way to being chosen as one of New Jersey’s five national All-Americans. Lynch was an easy pick as Dom Stillitano Forward of the Year, which was presented to Lynch by Stillitano.
Three other seniors got special honors as Hopewell ’keeper Ethan Peck took home the Brian “Maynard” Welsh Award; Ewing goalie/back Dantae Brewster was recipient of the Vince Palmere Award; then Allentown’s Giuliano Pierleonardi received the Mickey Forker “Love of the Game” Award, presented to him by the award’s namesake.
Trentonian sports editor Kyle Franko was also honored, receiving the CVC Coaches’ Red Birch Media Award, which was presented to Franko by his co-worker Birch.
