RIDGELAND, S.C. (WSAV) – A Ridgeland Correctional Institution inmate is dead after an apparent fight, the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) said Wednesday. Patrick Massey, 34, was found unresponsive in his cell after the incident Tuesday night, officials said. His cellmate was treated for non-life-threatening wounds that were "consistent with a fight." SCDC did not say if he's been charged, adding that it's under investigation. Massey's death is being investigated as a suspected homicide by the SCDC Inspector General's office with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Jasper County Coroner.
