[1] APS preps for changes in graduation requirements - Next year’s incoming high school freshmen will be the first under new graduation requirements. APS dministrators and teachers have been formulating a plan to implement changes based on legislation passed last session. The bill changes what credits high school students need to take in order to graduate. APS said more announcements on the changes will be sent out to parents next semester.
[2] Investigators detail interviews with Jeannine Jaramillo after deadly crash - The trial of a woman accused of causing a deadly wrong-way crash is set to continue. Police say Jeannine Jaramillo caused the 2022 crash that killed a retired firefighter and a Santa Fe police officer. The state argued that Jeannine Jaramillo was running from police in a stolen car when the crash occurred. They argued surveillance video showed Jaramillo lied to police about her role in the incident.
[3] Bitterly cold temperatures before a warm up - Afternoon temperatures will be a bit higher than yesterday for all with the daytime high temperatures being slightly below-normal. Despite a briefly cooler air-mass late Thursday into early Saturday afternoon, generally warmer weather will continue later this week through the weekend.
[4] ABQ BioPark announces Asian elephant gave birth to stillborn calf - The ABQ BioPark says Rozie, the Asian elephant, delivered a stillborn calf. This is Rozie's fourth time losing a calf. Her last three calves died from a virus known to kill elephants around the world. BioPark leaders said many are still in shock with how this happened after the pregnancy and birth were closely monitored
[5] Nuevo Atrisco opens on Albuquerque’s westside - The City of Albuquerque opened a new community plaza. Nuevo Atrisco features many amenities like a teaching kitchen, food park, interactive play areas, and a stage for live performances. The city contributed over $1 million for the project.
