JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ) The cause of a Jefferson City house explosion from November will likely remain undetermined because of the extent of the damage. According to the state fire marshal's incident report printed on Tuesday, the cause of an explosion at a house in Jefferson City is undetermined. Six people were hurt after a house exploded on St. Louis Road in Jefferson City around 2:45 a.m. Nov. 30. The report states due to the evidence and burn patterns noted in the report, investigators could not determine where the fire started. Without a start location, investigators could not determine what started the fire and listed the cause as undetermined. While natural gas was mentioned in the Jefferson City Fire report, the state fire marshal wrote the natural gas and electric utilities were reported to be in service but due to the damage to the structure they were unable to view the service entrance. Investigators said the home was in multiple parts. "The various portions of the residence were found in a large pile of debris with various layers consistent with an explosion occurring," the report states. State fire marshals reportDownload The report states the front door was found around 101 feet from the residence and the back walls of the second story were no longer intact, showing the inside of the home from outside. An interior examination could not be conducted because of the damage to the structure. Six people were taken to the hospital including one who had been trapped inside the home for two and a half hours, according to the report. The investigator said in the report that the property owners, who are also the parents of one of the victims, told them there were two gas furnaces and two gas water heaters inside the home. They told officials the only issue was the furnace not working correctly. The parents said they do not believe the explosion was intentional. There are no criminal offenses included in the report.
