BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A report shows that couples in Louisiana use alcohol consumption to bond.
According to a study by Texas Divorce Laws, 1 in 4 Louisiana couples consider alcohol a cornerstone of their relationship.
The researchers surveyed 3,000 couples across the nation. The study shows that 26% of Louisiana couples use alcohol for their relationship. The national average sits at 16%.
The study reports some couples drink together about three times a week on average. About 23% use alcohol to resolve conflict, 60% have a similar habit of drinking, 47% believe alcohol boosts intimacy and 25% of couples use drinking to avoid their issues.
Though some couples drink together, it can also come with some downsides such as health concerns, dependency issues and financial strain.
“While shared experiences, including occasional drinking, can play a positive role in partnerships, the high percentage of couples relying on alcohol as a cornerstone of their relationships raises important questions about healthy relationship dynamics”, said Shaun Connell, Founder of Texas Divorce Laws. “As society continues to evolve, it's crucial for couples to critically examine their habits and seek healthy, sustainable ways to strengthen their bonds. While "booze bonds" may seem to offer short-term benefits, the long-term stability and health of relationships likely depend on more fundamental factors such as trust, communication, and mutual respect.”
