ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Expect drizzle and scattered rain showers this morning as rain passes through the region. A large storm will push up into the Northeast and we are too warm for anything but rain. Cold air pushes in tonight into early Thursday and lake effect snow quickly gets going east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR WYOMING AND GENESEE COUNTIES. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR LIVINGSTON COUNTY. Our focus will be Lake Erie as a snow band will extend off the lake all the way up through into Monroe County. Expect snow to last throughout Thursday and even overnight into Friday. Exact amounts are tricky here, but it looks like the west side and south of Rochester may be able to get 1-3" with isolated higher amounts possible where the band may persist. The bitter cold air will allow for this snow to accumulate as temperatures stay in the 20s Thursday with wind chills in the single digits. We are cold through Friday, but the wind turns west and weakens, getting rid of the snow around Rochester. Brief high pressure Friday night into Saturday gives us a break from precipitation, but the next storm system arrives early Sunday morning to bring a brief mix that quickly changes over to rain. That tapers Sunday night and our next system is a cold front to bring rain Monday night into Tuesday.
