Local holiday giveaway brings bicycles to Savannah students
Dec 11, 2024
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — It is the season for giving and some lucky students in Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools System (SCCPSS) will receive some special gifts today.
It will be a holiday giveaway that will have students riding high with excitement. Today and tomorrow, Gateway Terminals will be delivering bicycles to students at 11 different schools.
It's all part of a generous effort to help motivate students and help families that need an extra hand for the holidays. Thanks to the generous donation of the business, over 170 bikes will be given away – which is more than last year's donation. This is a partnership between the schools and Gateway Terminals that has spanned for three years. Each school will receive bikes in various sizes for boys and girls – with some bikes being used for incentives such as perfect attendance, literacy achievements, and high-test scores.
"When you are talking about bikes for Christmas of course it means a multitude of things for those families. Because one their children have something under the tree if they weren't able to provide it. You know it also helps with test scores so it's a win-win for everyone," said Selina Ruth-Gillans, SCCPSS Executive Director of Specialized Learning.
Today Gateway Terminals will stop at several schools to deliver bikes. Each school will receive between 12 to 20 bicycles. Some of the schools they're visiting this morning include Shuman and AB Williams Elementary.
If you want to donate, you can reach out to the school in your zone. They welcome any holiday donation for their students.
