Strong trade winds through late Thursday

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Strong trade winds have triggered a wind advisory for portions of Maui, Lanai and Hawaii Island. Winds to 30 mph and gusts to 50 mph are expected. In addition, a high wind warning is in place for Big Island summits with wind gusts to 70 mph. Winds are expected to increase starting Friday, with kona winds taking over Monday.
Strong Trade Winds This Week
Strongest Winds: Wednesday and Thursday
Affected Areas: Big Island, Maui County, and potentially parts of Oahu
Wind Advisories and Warnings: In effect for the Big Island and Maui County, with potential expansion to Oahu.
Dry and Stable for Western Islands
Kauai and Oahu: Dry conditions and limited rain.
Eastern Islands: Increased shower activity, especially Wednesday night through Thursday night.
Weakening Winds and Drier Conditions
Weekend and Early Next Week: Trade winds will weaken, and drier air will move in, reducing shower activity. Kona winds start Monday.
