RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD says deputies responded to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after two inmates overdosed on Tuesday evening.
Around 4:30 p.m. a Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputy that was at the scene was informed by jail staff that two inmates overdosed.
Also, staff informed the deputy that the inmates were taken to a local hospital and that two other inmates were being seen by medical staff at the jail in reference to using drugs.
The deputy confirmed with the jail staff that the two inmates that were taken to the hospital had been administered Narcan at the scene.
After speaking with the two inmates being treated at the jail, the deputy went to the hospital, says RCSD.
RCSD says at the hospital, the deputy was informed by one of the inmates that he had smoked “K2”, which is a synthetic marijuana, after which he experienced symptoms of an overdose.
The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate as the case is ongoing.
