CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) -- On Monday, 51-year-old Richard Nicholas Osborn pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child after a jury was selected in the case, according to the Williamson County District Attorney's Office.
After the court dismissed the jury, Osborn agreed to a contested sentencing hearing by District Court Judge Rick Kennon, according to a press release. A contested sentencing hearing is when the judge presiding over the case decides the convicted person's punishment.
Kennon decided to sentence Osborn to 20 years in prison. He's also required to register as a sex offender for life. A lifetime protective order was also put in place to prevent any contact between Osborn and the victim, the release said.
KXAN has reached out to Osborn's attorney for a comment regarding the outcome of the case, should they provide a comment we will update this story.
Officials said the victim who Osborn had sexually assaulted repeatedly from the age of 4 to 13 testified at the sentencing hearing. The victim testified about the years of abuse, its impact, and how it had affected her future.
Osborn presented evidence of childhood trauma related to a strict religious childhood and introduced a psychologist to testify about potential post-prison treatment options in an attempt to lessen his sentence, officials said.
