The Arc Mercer presented Rider University with its 2024 Community Partner Award at the organization’s Fall Gala in Hamilton, New Jersey, on November 15. The partnership between Rider and The Arc Mercer has created jobs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Daly Dining Hall. For six years, Arc participants have worked five days per week serving food, cleaning tables, stocking supplies and organizing dining areas. “We’re honored to receive this recognition from The Arc Mercer,” said Mike Reca, Rider’s vice president for University Operations. “It’s inspiring to see how this partnership has created real opportunities for independence and personal growth, making a difference for the workers from The Arc as well as our campus community.” The Arc Mercer provides resources and support to over 1,000 children and adults through programs focused on education, job training, recreation and independent living. Peter Ehlin, regional district manager for Gourmet Dining Services LLC, which runs Rider’s dining operations, helped establish the collaboration. “Rider’s collaboration with our vocational program has not only enhanced opportunities and programs but has also resulted in real employment and greater independence for those we serve,” said Steven P. Cook, The Arc Mercer’s executive director. The university’s dining services also partners with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County to deliver food to elderly and homebound residents.
