Arctic blast inbound; harsh wind chills and snow showers
Dec 04, 2024
A cold start this morning under mostly cloudy skies but mainly dry statewide! Temperatures are a touch "better" but winds chills remain in the teens at sunrise.
This afternoon will bring heavier clouds, gustier conditions and a few passing sprinkles around the area with the passage of cold front No. 1. Southwest winds will gust to 30-35 mph, as our temperatures rise into the lower 40s...the warmest in a week!
Tonight, cold front No. 2 arrives! This will bring additional snow showers to the area and the coldest air of the season thus far. The passage of this cold front will bring wind gusts up to 40 mph. Expect some areas seeing a light dusting of snow, too, along with a few slick spots overnight.
A Wind Advisory goes into effect at 6 p.m. Wednesday and will last until 4 a.m. Thursday for much of central Indiana.
The bigger story is the arctic cold temperatures. Lows tonight will drop into the lower teens with wind chills falling below zero in most locations by sunrise.
Breezy conditions will continue Thursday, but a brighter day is ahead with little warmth throughout the day...highs reaching the lower 20s.
The weekend still looks solid with dry conditions until Sunday evening, as temperatures rise back into the 40s and lower 50s by Sunday afternoon.
