Padilla basketball beats Wilson, Bishop Kearney falls in season openers

Padilla 58, Wilson 49
Trailing four points in the third quarter, Padilla went on a 15-1 run to give the Bulldogs a nine-point win in the season opener. Padilla is the new name for Franklin High School, which is now known as Padilla High School at the Franklin Campus.
The two teams were tied at 28 at halftime and midway through the third quarter, Wilson led 35-31. However, the Bulldogs turned up the intensity on defense and started getting out in transition. Padilla ended the third on a 9-1 run to lead 40-36, then scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to go up 46-36.
Wilson got things back on track, but never got their deficit to less than six points.
Daniel Gay led the Bulldogs with a game-high 21 points. Isaiah Caruthers had 14 while TeVierre Miranda netted 11 points.
Ibra Hakizimana led Wilson with 14 points. Joshua Ellington had 11 while Jesse Lynn scored 10.
Padilla (1-0) will travel to Mendon on Friday, December 6th while Wilson (0-1) will visit Monroe on Monday, December 10th.
Girls Basketball
St. Mary's 50, Bishop Kearney 46
Klarissa Goode led the Lady Kings with 24 points, but she was outdueled by St. Mary's stud freshman Mila Bissett who returned to Buffalo with a victory.
The Lady Kings got out to a slow start, making just two field goals in the first quarter, and trailed 9-8 heading into the second.
Bishop Kearney warmed up in the second, taking a 16-13 lead midway through the quarter. However, St. Mary's finished strong and led 23-20 at the break.
Mila Bissett had 18 of her 27 points in the second half to keep St. Mary's in front, leading 37-35 at the end of the third before pulling away for a 50-56 win.
Goode tallied 16 of her 24 points in the second half. Asia Wilson had 11 points, Claire Spears had five points, while Adrianna Kennedy, Tallan McCullough, and 7th-grader Leah Dukes each had two points.
Bissett had two three-pointers and tallied nine points in the fourth quarter. Bissett, a freshman, already has an offer from St. Bonaventure University. Jada Mushat had 11 points while Cameryn Wanat had nine points for St. Mary's, a traditionally strong program from the Buffalo area.
Bishop Kearney (0-1) will look for their first win of the season on Saturday, December 7th when they play Jamesville-DeWitt at St Mary's tournament.
