NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A local motorcycle club is mourning the loss of one of its members as police look for the person who hit and killed him with a car. Motorcyclist killed in Norfolk hit-and-run crash Zachary Schonborn, 23, was hit on East Little Creek Road in Norfolk Sunday morning. The driver left the scene. "Two seconds, he was a stranger," said Broken Arrow Motorcycle Club members, "by second three, he was family and he never failed to make us smile." That's how friends remember Zachary Schonborn, and memories are what they'll cherish forever after Schonborn's life was cut short in a motorcycle crash. Police are still looking for the other driver. "I've totaled bikes, I've been hit, and the first thing they always tell you is, 'I didn't see you,'" said Broken Arrow Motorcycle Club Vice President Jonathan Wells. "They look right through you, and it's just an expectation that no one on the road is noticing you. They're not looking out for you, so they're not going to see you. It's starting to get better." Tragedies like Schonborn's death are a reminder that all drivers have a responsibility for road safety. "Really, just making sure that we are sharing the roads, and even though motorcyclists don't take as much space up on the road as a big Cadillac Escalade does out there on the road, just making sure that we are sharing the roads, that we're giving each other enough space," said AAA Tidewater's public relations specialist Ryan Adcock. Members of the Broken Arrow Motorcycle Club agree. The club is made up of military & law enforcement members, many joined the call to remember Schonborn, who was active in the Virginia chapter. Zachary's nickname was Plankton — he once had an eye injury and was an active duty cook in the Navy. "We're going to miss a good dude, a guy that would give his shirt off his back for you," said BAMC chairman Keith Kufner. "He would show up. It didn't matter what time you needed help, I think Plankton would be there." The club has started a donation page for Schonborn's family. You can click here to donate. Meanwhile, Norfolk Police continue to look for the other driver. If you have any information, call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
