MPD: Suspect pistol whips, tases hotel manager during robbery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Police are looking for a suspect they say robbed a hotel and physically assaulted a hotel manager on Monday.
At 5:24 p.m., officers responded to a business burglary at Siegel Select in the 50000 block of Shelby Oaks Drive.

Officers were told that a man wearing a black coat with a Nike logo on the sleeve and black pants forced open the door leading to the employee-only entrance of the hotel.
Once inside, the suspect went to the manager's office and pointed a handgun at the manager's head.
MPD released surveillance footage of a suspect assaulting a hotel manager.
The suspect demanded that the manager open the safe and began striking the manager several times over the head with the handgun and tased him in the back.

A witness overheard the commotion and attempted to stop the suspect, who threw the witness to the ground and tried to shoot the witness but the gun did not fire.
While holding the manager and witness at gunpoint, a hotel employee came into the building, distracting the suspect who chased after the hotel employee.
The hotel employee was able to run to safety and the suspect fled the business on foot after taking a few items from inside the building.

Memphis Police said that no arrests have been made but this is still an ongoing investigation.
The suspect has been described as a man with a stocky build and light brown eyes wearing a black coat with a Nike logo on the sleeve, black pants and armed with a black and gray handgun and a taser.
