The Salvation Army needs more bell ringers as Christmas nears
Dec 03, 2024
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— The Salvation Army's 2024 goal is to raise $200,000 from its red kettle campaign alone.
That money not only goes toward their Christmas operations, but it supports them year round. That's why it is so important.
"It helps with all the programming that we do," Scott Smith, Corps Officer with The Salvation Army of Allen County, said. "The social services that we do helps with getting people food. It helps with getting people potential rent paid or utilities paid, just depending on what their need is."
But this year, as in years past, the organization is struggling to fill their bell ringing volunteer positions.
"It's hard to get people that actually are willing to stand at the kettles for an extended period of time," Smith said. "So, if you can bundle up and get on some some good warm clothes, and get out there and volunteer to bell ring, that would help us immensely."
The red kettle campaign runs through Christmas Eve. Red kettles are located at area Walmarts, Hobby Lobbys and Sam's Club.
Those interested in signing up to volunteer can sign up for shifts online, and those who wish to help The Salvation Army in other ways can find more information on the organization’s website.
