Search begins for Dickinson State University president
Dec 03, 2024
BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — On Tuesday, December 3, the search committee appointed by the State Board of Higher Education met to discuss how to proceed with finding a new president for Dickinson State University.
The committee is seeking a full-time president for the university after former president Steve Easton resigned in July. This month, the search and recruiting will officially open.
The search committee must have at least three candidates to interview, and the top candidates will be contacted in February.
"Many people are very interested in seeing Dickinson State increase its presence," stated Janice Fitzgerald with AGB Search. "Not only in the state, but in fact, the nation. They want to see more of what would be attractive to individuals promoted."
State Board of Higher Ed opts to keep Orton in charge at Dickinson State University
"Sometimes," explained NDUS Chancellor Mark Hagerott, "these things can get really energized. I've been in meetings where there are definitely groups beginning to form around candidates, and this is all highly confidential. Even though you may disagree, please respect each other's opinions."
Under the proposed timeline, Chancellor Hagerott would recommend finalists to the State Board of Higher Ed in March of 2025, with an offer made to the potential future president by the end of March.
Ty Orton has been serving as acting president at the university since August.
