GREECE, N.Y. (WROC)— This week's Golden Apple Award winner has a reputation for being great. Kathleen Franklin is one of those teachers who makes parents jump for joy when they find out their child will be in her class. Franklin teaches third grade at Paddy Hill Elementary in Greece. This is her 18th year teaching. Parent Stacy Paddon says, "The first few words that come to mind when I think about her are just kind, compassionate, caring, patient.  She is just amazing." Paddon and her son Brycen decided to nominate Mrs. Franklin for a Golden Apple Award because she makes learning fun and puts parents at ease. "He's had wonderful teachers every year that he has been here, but she absolutely goes above and beyond, and I almost feel like she is an extension of my family.  When I drop him off here, I know that he is taken care of and that he is in excellent hands," says Paddon.   Brycen adds, "One of my favorite things she does is give out prizes."   Beth Boily, a Substitute Administrator for the school adds, "She is highly focused on quality instruction and really is just a gift to children."   Not many teachers can say they have only taught one-grade level their entire career, but Mrs. Franklin knew right where she belonged from the start. "Third grade has my heart.  It's the only grade I have ever taught.  It's a super fun age group.  Kids love learning and I just love this age," says Franklin. She treats every child in her class like they are a part of her family. "I just try to see the potential in each kid.  Just knowing that if they are in a comfortable, safe environment that they're going to want to do well," Franklin adds. For her, teaching isn't just a job, it's a gift. "Having kids of my own and just realizing that each and every one of these kids this is someone's entire world and just knowing how special they are," says Franklin.   It's safe to say that she is pretty special to them too.
