SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Yet another Bay Area elected official could be facing a recall. Residents have launched a recall effort of San Francisco Supervisor Joel Engardio. At issue, according to organizers, is the District 4 supervisor's support of Proposition K. Prop K, which was passed by San Francisco voters last month, will see the permanent closing of the Great Highway to traffic. San Francisco tech startup advertises replacing people with ‘AI employees’ While the initiative won popular support around the city, 54% of voters backed it, a majority of residents in the area of the Great Highway, which falls under Engardio's district, opposed the measure. The measure was mostly opposed on the basis of traffic concerns. "Instead of representing the majority of District 4, Joel has focused on catering to a small group while ignoring the voices of the people who elected him," reads the Recall Engardio website. "He's pushed divisive policies like permanently closing the Great Highway -- without meaningful community input -- creating traffic chaos and increasing stress for families and commuters. Joel has continuously struggled to address the key issues facing our community, leaving many residents feeling unsupported and unheard." Engardio, who was elected in 2022, issued a response on his website's blog, saying he respected "the views of Sunset voters who opposed Prop K." "Many of them have told me they didn't feel heard in their objection to it being on the ballot," he continued. "I take this feedback to heart because it's important to me that everyone is heard." Regarding the recall, the supervisor wrote, "there have been news reports that a group of residents -- including some who don't live in District 4 or even San Francsico -- are seeking to recall me from officer because of my support for Prop K." "Voters have a right to recall their elected leaders," he continued. "I respectfully ask voters to consider the entirety of my work representing them, and not just this one issue." Recall organizers submitted a letter of intent regarding the recall on Tuesday.
