(KRON) -- The Alum Rock Union Elementary School District (ARUSD) Board of Education held a meeting Monday night to approve the closures of several schools. Effective for the 2025-26 school year, four elementary schools and two middle schools will shut down. Other schools in the Alum Rock neighborhood of East San Jose are either redesigning or consolidating. ARUSD Superintendent Germán Cerda said the decision stems from a $20 million budget deficit -- citing a "significant decline" in enrollment and expiration of COVID relief funds. Per ARUSD, here is the full list of school closures, redesigns and consolidations.
