Kansas Republicans retain supermajority control in the state Legislature

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas election officials have finalized the results of the recent General Election, confirming the results of two contentious races in the state Legislature.
Kansas Secretary of State (SOS) Scott Schwab released the final results of the 2024 General Election for the Sunflower State on Dec. 3, which includes the final tallies for the tight Senate District 5 and House District 49 races. Results included the final counts for the Kansas Congressional and Legislative races along with the state Board of Education and judge positions.
Republicans claimed the majority of political wins in the Kansas Legislature, claiming victory in 26 Senate races and 56 House races. Democrats won six positions in the state Senate and 19 in the House. The Republican Party will retain its supermajority control in both the Senate and the House with their two-thirds majority.

“I want to thank all the volunteers, poll workers, and election officials for their hard work and dedication to make sure we had a safe, secure, and successful election this year,” Schwab said.
Schwab said the Kansas presidential electors are due to meet at noon on Dec. 17 at the Kansas Statehouse to cast their votes for the next president and vice-president. He also shared some general statistics from the previous election indicating voter turnout amounts:
137,644/10% mail-in ballots were used.
557,209/41% of ballots were cast in-person.
648,294/49% of ballots were cast on election day.
A total of 2,031,132 people were registered to vote in Kansas while total voter turnout was 1,344,147/66.2%.
