DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth man died after falling through the ice on the St. Louis River in Superior, Wis., according to authorities. Gregory Garmer, 78, was found dead at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported. A search had been underway since Sunday evening, when Garmer failed to return home after leaving around 1 p.m. with the intention to ice skate on Woodstock Bay, an inlet on the river separating Minnesota and Wisconsin. Deputies were dispatched to the area, and members of the public were asked to review any potentially relevant camera footage. A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter also assisted with the search. Woodstock Bay has recently seen renewed attention after the September completion of a $1.6 million waterfront park.
