215 Freeway closures near Cal State San Bernardino are on this week
Dec 03, 2024
A project to improve freeway access from the 215 Freeway near Cal State San Bernardino is underway and will cause nighttime lane and ramp closures this week.
The closures, which began Monday night, Dec. 2, are part of a $25.8 million project to upgrade the interchange at University Parkway in San Bernardino.
The work will last through Friday, Dec. 6.
Southbound lanes and ramps will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. every day this week, but the interchange will be accessible, a San Bernardino County Transportation Authority news release states.
Officials suggest that drivers take alternate routes and use Kendall Drive, Palm Avenue and Hallmark Parkway.
Crews will use this week’s closures to prepare for construction, authority spokesperson Tim Watkins said.
The work involves clearing brush and vegetation, laying temporary roadway striping and removing concrete pavement and curbs to prepare for construction, the release states.
The interchange is frequently used by students, faculty and staff driving to the university, the release states.

The project would improve traffic flow by allowing more cars exiting the freeway at University Parkway to pass through during a green light. It also would reduce the number of left turns across oncoming traffic.
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025, with more lane and ramp closures planned in 2025, but officials don’t know when they will be, Watkins said.
