NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — With another holiday on the calendar, the Baslee family in Norfolk knows there will be one person missing for their Christmas plans. Dawn Baslee, mother of three, told 10 On Your Side this is the second Christmas her husband will miss with family because of a deployment. Baslee and her husband share three kids: Zachary and the twins, Eve and Eden. Like many other spouses in Hampton Roads, she is doing what she can to make sure her kids still feel like the holidays are whole. Understanding what Baslee is experiencing, Wonderly Lights of Virginia Beach offered its help. In a heap of submissions for a contest to win free lights, Agnes Pizzaro with Wonderly Lights said the family's story hit close to home. "They've gotten nominated a couple of times by different people," Pizzaro said. "So we saw their names a couple of times in there, and then, just reading their story really resonated with us over at Wonderly Lights. "Her story of raising her kids by herself right now while her husband is deployed really resonated with us. I think that this would be something really cool for the kids to have during the holidays." The Baslees woke up Tuesday morning and Wonderly was ready to go for the decor. Strings of holiday lights were on the lawn waiting to be placed on the home and workers measuring up the roof. Baslee said she couldn't be more grateful. "I'm probably going to cry," said Baslee. "I'm probably going to cry because I haven't seen this. This is the first time that we decorated our house, so I haven't seen stuff like this. I'll probably just cry." Stay with WAVY.com for more local news, weather and traffic.
