NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Get ready for a rollercoaster of weather changes this week across the northern Gulf Coast region.
Cooler air has settled in, with morning lows forecast to dip into the 30s and 40s for most areas. However, Lake Pontchartrain’s warmer waters will likely keep nearby spots along the Lakefront closer to upper 40s.
A shift in winds by Wednesday afternoon will bring warmer air and moisture back to the area, leading to increasing clouds by sunset. Wednesday night, rain chances increase, with temperatures staying warm in the lower 60s.
On Thursday, a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing rain and possibly a few storms, mostly in the morning. Rainfall amounts could reach 1 to 2 inches in northwestern areas. Severe weather isn’t expected, but a wet morning commute is likely.
Temperatures will stay steady in the low 60s before dropping sharply Thursday night. By Friday, highs will struggle to climb out of the 50s, and lows could fall near freezing in some areas, especially if skies clear.
The weekend brings a slight warm-up, but rain chances return late Sunday into Monday with highs near 70.
