DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. — Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office are searching for the driver of a pick-up truck who mowed down a 68-year-old woman the night before Thanksgiving and then drove off.
The woman was identified as Justina Jordan-Shelton who friends say went by "Tina."
"She was the life of the party and you were always guaranteed a laugh when she was around," her caretaker Austin Greene said.
Greene said Tina had a hard life but always had a positive outlook. He said her now permanent absence has left a big hole in his and his family's hearts.

“Life just freezes around you for a moment," Greene said. "You’re just left with the clothes in the washer she left. The hot coffee that was still steaming up on her coffee pot. Life just freezes."
The sheriff's office said one of its deputies was patrolling the area a little after 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 when they noticed several cars pulled over on the side of the road.
"He went ahead and pulled over. Well, unbeknownst to him, it was actually a pedestrian that was struck by a westbound traveling vehicle," Deputy Chief Jeff Stanley said.
Stanley said Tina had just left a store and was making her way home when she was struck.
"She was pretty close to her home, unfortunately," Stanley said. "She was trying to cross East Jackson. That’s when she got struck by the vehicle.”
People driving behind the suspect vehicle witnessed the collision and detectives have been able to gather some information from those interviews, according to Stanley. Investigators believe the vehicle is a 2007 to 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. They're still working to confirm other details such as the color of the vehicle.
2007-14 Chevrolet Silverado models. Detectives are still trying to determine the color of the vehicle.
"It’s a tragic incident where a loved one was taken so we want to have closure for the family," Stanley said.
For Greene, that closure can't come soon enough. His hope is that the driver will turn themselves in to the police.
“I really hoped and prayed that they have a guilty conscience and they enjoyed their Thanksgiving with their families," Greene said. "Because we spent ours a little differently and with one empty chair at the table”
Detectives canvassed the area around the crash site on Tuesday, looking for surveillance video that may have captured the suspect vehicle.
