HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Every year, on Dec. 3, something special happens at the North Pole. It’s called Santa’s List Day.
It's the day when Santa Claus checks his list to see who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.

So, it’s an important part of the Christmas tradition and a time when Santa starts getting ready for his busy night of delivering gifts.
What is Santa’s List?
Santa’s list is a magical document that keeps track of every keiki in the world. It’s divided into two sections: one for the “nice” keiki and one for the “naughty” keiki.
Santa uses this list to decide which toys and gifts each keiki will receive. The “nice” list is full of keiki who have been kind, helpful and empathetic throughout the year.
The “naughty” list, on the other hand, includes keiki who have not been kind, helpful or empathetic.
Santa’s List is a big deal for keiki, and Santa uses it to make sure he’s fair when delivering your presents.
But it’s not just about being perfect. It’s also about trying your best and showing kindness to others.
Santa knows that everyone can have a bad day; so, he also looks at how you learn and grow throughout the year.
How does Santa keep track?
Santa has a team of helpers, including elves, who keep an eye on how you behave. They don’t just check who’s good or bad based on big things. They look at small acts of kindness, like helping a friend, doing chores without complaining or being polite.
Every time you do something good, it’s like getting a star on your record.
The elves also watch out for things like whether you are taking care of your pets, being honest, or showing respect to your family members.
They keep a close eye on these actions all year long; so, when Santa looks at his list on Dec. 3, he has all the information he needs to decide who belongs on the nice list.
Why is Dec. 3 important?
Dec. 3 is the day when Santa’s helpers bring him the final updates on the list. Santa spends the entire day going through it and making sure everything is in order before he starts preparing for Christmas Eve.
This day is so important because it gives Santa time to double-check all the names, make any last-minute changes and get ready to deliver presents to all the good boys and girls.
It’s also a fun tradition for families and communities. Some people use Santa’s List Day as a reminder to do something nice for others.
For example, you might help clean your rooms, share toys or write a thank-you letter to someone who helped you.
The idea is to do something kind and show that you’re making an effort to be on the nice list, just in case you need a little reminder!
What can you do on Santa’s List day?
If you want to make sure you’re on Santa’s nice list, you can use Santa’s List Day as a time to do something special.
It could be as simple as helping around the house, being kind to your siblings or giving a compliment to someone at school.
Every good deed counts; and by doing your best on Dec. 3, you’re showing Santa that you’re ready for Christmas.
So, remember to be kind, helpful and empathetic not just on Dec. 3 but all year long.
