APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) — Construction on Sandy Slope Elementary School, the Appleton Area School District’s new elementary school, is progressing smoothly, according to district officials.
Approved by voters in November 2022, the two-story, 99,600-square-foot building broke ground in October 2023. The facility will accommodate approximately 600 kindergarten through fifth-grade students.

Superintendent Greg Hartjes noted the school’s innovative design, which departs from the traditional layout seen in most district schools.
Construction almost complete at ThedaCare’s new Fond du Lac campus, scheduled to open its doors to the community in 2025
“A little bit different of a design in that it has a pod concept,” Hartjes explained. “Where most of our schools have hallways, classrooms feed out into hallways. In this school, we have classrooms that are in a pod, and they share a space collectively. That’s unique to our school district.”
Construction is on schedule to be completed in time for the 2025-26 school year.
