WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – A parade of nominees for President-elect Donald Trump's new cabinet are back on Capitol Hill.  His picks for attorney general, defense secretary, and secretary of state are meeting with senators. The Trump administration nominees are making their cases to senators as they hope to win confirmation, but some are facing more intense scrutiny than others. "A lot of questions have been raised about the nominees, a lot of questions are raised about any president's nominees. But that's why God made confirmation hearings,” said Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.). As senators gear up to consider President-elect Trump's nominees many of them are visiting Capitol Hill to try to rack up votes for confirmation. Attorney general nominee Pam Bondi is getting glowing reviews from Republicans as she makes the rounds. "She's a tough prosecutor. She was a really good attorney general of Florida. She was tough. She was independent. She was independently elected in Florida. She understands the role,” said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.). Trump's pick for defense secretary is more controversial. Army veteran and former Fox News host Pete Hegseth is facing multiple troubling allegations including an accusation of sexual assault, which he denies. An investigation by the New Yorker alleges Hegseth was fired from previous jobs because of intoxication and inappropriate behavior but at least some senators are standing behind Hegseth. "I've known him for a long time, there's not going to be anything to this at the end of the day,” said Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.). So far, the Trump transition team has not agreed to allow the FBI to screen his nominees which has some lawmakers concerned. “You can't do a speed dating process for the cabinet of the President of the United States without ending up embarrassed,” said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). Senators on both sides of the aisle say FBI background checks are crucial to the confirmation process.
