CCSD collects supplies for North Carolina storm victims

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – It’s the season of giving, and the Charleston County School District is helping our neighbors in North Carolina with a large donation.
Students, families, and staff members collected supplies to help out a school district in western North Carolina after the area was devastated by Hurricane Helene in late September.
CCSD collected everything from pens and pencils to glue sticks, and notebooks and folders to help students of all ages.
The supplies, which filled up nine pallets at the district’s warehouse, will be sent to Mitchell County Schools in North Carolina. A truck will help deliver items to seven schools in the small rural North Carolina town.
It’s a special place for CCSD’s Sherry Bell, as it’s her hometown.
"We moved in 2018 to Charleston and left our hometown in the mountains of western North Carolina and never thought that the tables would be turned and that they could have been impacted by a horrific hurricane versus Charleston,” said Bell. “It means so much to our family that the district decided to adopt my hometown, and I know that they will forever be grateful.”
Bell said many of the supplies students had in Mitchell County Schools were damages by the flood waters, so this donation will be a big help as students return to the classroom.
