Arvin man and his accused killer were involved with same woman: report
Dec 03, 2024
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- An Arvin man who was fatally shot in 2022 was in a romantic relationship with the same woman as his accused killer, according to a police report.
Multiple people told police about the conflict between Ariel Alexander Angel Peralez and Armando Ortiz Jr.
Surveillance video captured Ortiz and another man -- his name is redacted from the report -- walking through a parking lot in the 1200 block of Durham Street on the night of May 22, 2022. Peralez is seen walking through the area at the same time.
Peralez, 29, was later found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ortiz, 30, was arrested earlier this month and has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder. He's being held without bail and is due back in court next week.
The surveillance camera didn't capture the shooting, but a witness whose vehicle is seen in the video reported hearing gunshots and seeing Ortiz "pointing an unknown object at (Peralez) as he screamed and fell," according to the declaration.
The witness, in custody for an unrelated incident, denied being involved in the homicide.
The man seen with Ortiz in the video told police he hung out with him all day but was not involved in the shooting, according to the declaration. He said he walked away when Ortiz and Peralez started arguing about a woman -- Ortiz accused Peralez of sleeping with his girlfriend -- then heard gunshots when he reached the intersection.
