CPD: 18yearold man seriously injured after striking pole, overturning SUV in twovehicle crash

Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning, one with serious injuries, after a crash in Avondale, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) said.CPD said an 18-year-old man was driving a 2007 Acura along Harvey Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive around 5 a.m. when he struck a 2011 Toyota Camry, which was being driven by a 21-year-old woman. After he struck the Toyota, the 18-year-old lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway and struck a pole before his vehicle overturned. Officials said the man was partially ejected through the sunroof, and crews had to roll over the car in order to free him. He had serious injuries and was transported to UC Medical Center, CPD said. A 20-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Toyota, also had minor injuries after the crash. She was also transported to UC Medical Center for treatment. CPD said those involved in the crash were not wearing seat belts. Police are investigating excessive speed and impairment as factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call CPD's Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
