SHARON, Mass. (WPRI) — A Sharon High School student is recovering after suffering a traumatic brain injury during the school's annual Thanksgiving football game.
School officials said 15-year-old Rohan Shukla was injured during a play and then collapsed on the sidelines.
He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent brain surgery and remains in treatment.
The incident has been devastating for the community. Counselors at the high school spoke with students and staff over the weekend.
"I know Rohan is a strong kid, I see it on the field, I see it in school. I know he's going to be okay," says his teammate, Shayak Saha. "Even if that means he's not coming back to football. Whatever he decides to do he's going to excel at."
More than $25,000 was raised through a GoFundMe, but the family asked it to be taken down.
