MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 10-year-old girl was shot in the leg while in her home early Tuesday morning, according to her mother. The child's mother spoke with WREG after the incident. She told us that her daughter Aliyah was getting up to go to the bathroom at around 1:20 a.m. when a bullet came through the front door of their home on Wabash Avenue. Aliyah was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital. She has since been released. There were seven other people in the house at the time of the shooting, but no other injuries were reported. Aliyah's mother called her a "miracle child," because she was not supposed to live past birth. She told us the 10-year-old had a twin who died and Aliyah was expected to do the same. "God had other plans for [her]. This is another miracle," said the mother. "She said it herself. 'I beat the odds once, I can beat the odds again."
