Snake meat seized at Dulles International Airport “Bulk marijuana smuggling is illegal, and Customs and Border Protection will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold smugglers accountable,” said Marc E. Calixte, CBP’s area port director for the Area Port of Washington, D.C. “Travelers who gamble with their freedom by smuggling bulk amounts of marijuana for a little extra cash may find themselves on the losing end of that proposition.” CBP noted that federal law prohibits transporting marijuana across state lines or out of the U.S. However, officers have noticed a "continuing trend" of U.S.-based growers shipping the substance to Europe and Africa, where high-quality cannabis can go for higher prices. The agency said that officers seized an average of 2,339 pounds of "dangerous drugs" in 2023 at and between the nation's air, sea and land ports of entry.
