WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Shoppers headed out Friday morning in search of bargains on Black Friday.
Each year, the Friday after Thanksgiving marks the official start of the Christmas Shopping season for retailers. To draw in shoppers, retailers typically offer bargains on selected merchandise. In recent years, as more people turn to online shopping, retailers have seen a decline in in-person sales.
Kayli Kirkbride, store Director of Academy Sports East in Wichita, says the day started a little slower than normal, but traffic has been picking up.
"Usually, like in the morning in the morning we have a line of like a hundred or more, says Kirkbride.
At Town East, Black Friday shoppers Pam Barnes of Wichita and her sister Tammy Mullins, who was in Wichita from Lyons, say they woke up at 5 a.m. to beat the crowds.
"I love it," says Mullins. "It's the thing to do every year." Barnes explains what excited her about Black Friday, "The people, the bargains." "And tradition," added Mullins.
