Run Like Kat 5K honors Katarina Bokovic's legacy
Nov 29, 2024
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The 3rd annual Run Like Kat 5K was Friday morning, keeping alive the memory and legacy of Katarina Boskovic who was tragically killed in 2022 in a car crash.
Katarina was a senior at Longmeadow High School and a member of the cross-country team, she passed away weeks before graduating.
One of the goals of Run Like Kat is to keep her legacy alive and continue to positively impact the community, just like she did.
Shea Hamel was critically injured in the same crash that killed Katarina. Sharing memories through Run Like Kat, makes it feel like Katarina is still with all of her friends and family. "We spread her characteristics, we give Be Like Kat awards to inspire people to do the same, have that determination, diligence, conscientiousness, really spread the joy around. One small act of kindness spread amongst a bunch of people," says Hamel.
Katarina's Aunt Karen said she was a bright light and this event helps to show the world how big of an impact Katarina had on so many people in such a short time.
Organizers anticipated 800 people would run and walk today in person or virtually, all remembering and embodying Kat's characteristics.
Gary Rome, Owner of Gary Rome Auto Group, the sponsor of the event, told 22News, "I think it's so important to keep her memory alive, and just to re-enforce everything she stood for."
All proceeds go to the Be Like Kat Memorial Fund, some of which will go to scholarships for Longmeadow graduating seniors and another part to community organizations Kat would have supported.
