Nov 29, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Spokespeople for Rhode Island Congressman Seth Magaziner and U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said their elected official received bomb threats on Thursday.
In a statement, Magaziner said, "I was recently notified of a bomb threat targeting me and my family at our home. We are safe and there was no evidence of a bomb on the property."
Magaziner also thanked Providence police for their "effective response."
A spokesperson for Magaziner said the threat was sent Thursday via email to an account belonging to a Providence City Hall employee that's not frequently used. The threat was discovered Friday morning, according to the spokesperson.
A spokesperson for U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said the senator "received a similar threat to the ones" made against other Democrats on Thanksgiving.
Whitehouse's spokesperson added that the senator "is grateful for the quick all-clear response by the Newport Police."
